A victory for elephants and rhinos
Dear Ingeborg,
This weekend was monumental for wildlife around the world. A huge reserve of rhino horn and elephant ivory that poachers and traffickers would have been able to sell at huge profits was crushed, burned, and buried in Hanoi—sending a strong message that Viet Nam is committed to conservation and will not tolerate wildlife crime.
This event marked the first time ever that Viet Nam publicly destroyed confiscated ivory and rhino horn. The country is a large deciding factor in whether rhinos and elephants can be saved or whether they will disappear forever. They play an important role in trafficking and transit of these endangered and threatened species.

This is a huge step in protecting rhinos and elephants and we applaud the Viet Nam government for taking action.
The U.S., China, Singapore, and France have conducted similar destructions of their confiscated stockpiles in the past few years. Poachers, be advised: your markets are dwindling and your cruel industry is doomed.
There is hope for these animals, if we keep up the fight.
